Opal Nera

Opal Nera liqueur is a dark, edgy blend of anise, elderberries and lemon with a distinctive flavour of liquorice and aniseed backed by citrus freshness.

Alessandro Francoli, heir of the Francoli distilling dynasty, created Opal Nera on his honeymoon in 1989. He was looking for a modern twist on sambuca, a traditional Italian aperitif based on the berries and flowers of the elder bush.

Traditional sambucas were clear. Alessandro's inspiration was to use the natural colourings found in the dark skins of elderberries to create Opal Nera's seductive violet black hue.

Opal Nera is made in Italy from entirely natural ingredients. Italian green anise, lemon and elderberries are blended with Chinese star anise and water drawn from a local Alpine well. The result is a premium, balanced liqueur with a distinctively smooth finish.

Opal Nera is now available in more than thirty countries.

Opal Bianca

A modern interpretation of traditional Italian white sambucas at 30% abv.

Opal Bianca is a blend of pure Alpine water from Francoli's well, Chinese star anise, Italian green anise, fresh lemon and elderflowers. These all-natural ingredients produce a smooth liqueur made from sambuca with an elegant anise and citrus flavour.

Opal Rossa

The all new Blood Cherry liqueur at 30% ABV

The newest addition to this premium range of Italian liqueurs is Opal Rossa, the Blood Cherry flavoured Liquore alla Sambuca.

Tasting notes

Opal Nera: Blended from lemon skins, elder blossoms, star anise and pure water, this original black liqueur tastes of liquorice and anise. The sweet but strong flavour is reminiscent of black jellybeans with lemon zest.

Opal Bianca: Typical white sambucas are dominated by the harsh flavour of star anise. Opal Bianca is known for its round flavour and sweet texture, which is achieved by combining star anise, green anise, elderflowers, lemon and pure alpine water with the sambuca. The result is uniquely smooth.
